- Depth: 8'-10'
- Tide: 2.0'-2.5'
- Description:
Hog Cay is a private Island just south of Calabash Bay on the north end of Long Island and is often preferred as an alternative to Calabash Bay.
There is a pretty anchorage off the beach that offers good holding and reasonable protection from the NE-E. In settled conditions there is less surge here than in Calabash Bay which is ~1.5 nm further north. Do not stay in this anchorage if there is a chance of a west wind. Anchor along the beach just north of the 2 story octagonal house in clear sand for the best holding. For vessels wishing to enter Joe’s Sound, The Hog Cay anchorage is a good spot to wait until high slack tide.
