Notify the Metropolitan Marine Police when you anchor, either at the Marine Harbor Police Station at 202-727-4582 or on VHF Channel 17. You will need to give boat name, length, owner's name, address and telephone number, number of people aboard, expected duration of visit and location of anchorage.
Note: Anchoring is not permitted north of the Harbor Patrol/Police dock, the first dock on starboard going northbound in Washington Channel.
DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
