- Description:
Port Royal Bay is a settled weather hidden gem at the very north end of Cat Island. If you want seclusion this is an excellent choice.
The Bay is guarded by shifting sand bars which make navigation tricky, but in good light the water is clear, and the shallow parts near shore are easily identified. Much of the shoreline on the north part of the bay is taken up by the exclusive Shanna’s Cove Resort but the south end appears to be open for landing a dinghy. There is good protection from NE-SE and there is less surge than at Arthur’s Town. The holding is excellent.
As with most anchorages in Cat Island the bay is exposed to the west and any hint of westerly winds is a sign to leave. For those heading towards Eleuthera the anchorage is a good place to stage for a departure into the deep waters north of Long Rocks and Little San Salvador Island.
DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
