Dutch's Island Anchorage

  • Lat / Lon: N 37° 55.669' / W 087° 37.635'
  • Description:

Now that Nu Plaza Marina is totally gone (wiped out in early 2025 by a barge) the shoot behind the island a a decent place to anchor. Enter from the lower end favoring the side closest to the island in order to stay away from any of the old marina infrastructure that may be under the water. Once above the old marina turn into the middle of the channel just below the large white floating "No wake" navigation aid. The old marina had a large anchor at the upper end to hold it in place and that anchor was marked with some black floating buoys, which may or may not still be there when you enter. The water is plenty deep in the middle measuring 10-15' feet or more. You may also be able to enter from the narrow shoot on the upper end but seek local knowledge. Expect lots of noise due to nearby passing trains. Next time I may try the anchorage under the power lines downriver behind Henderson Island. There are not many good anchorages around the Evansville area and Inland Marine Marina has shallow depths.

DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.

0
