Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC, CAN
Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu at Mile 49 is the largest and liveliest city on the river. It is a must-stop for skippers traveling the Triangle Loop for the first time. The British fleet that fought Benedict Arnold’s fleet in the 1776 Lake Champlain Battle of Valcour was built here.
St. Jean has a number of restaurants along its waterfront. One block from the south dock of the lock are shops, banks, hardware and convenience stores and a grocery store (15-minute walk). Ask the locktender for directions to Halles St. Jean, an open-market style shopping center with green grocers, bakeries, bulk foods, wine and spirits and a deli, all under one roof.
The Waterway Guide Team has gained extensive boating knowledge over the years, and now we are sharing all of the tips, skills and tools we’ve picked up along the way!
