Halifax, NS, CAN
Halifax, which is the provincial capitol and Nova Scotia’s largest city. Downtown Halifax has all of the amenities and experiences one would expect in a mid-size city. The waterfront is an easy walk to restaurants, shopping and museums. There is a daily Farmers’ Market (seasonal). The airport is a bit out of town but most major airlines provide service. If a rental car is available, Peggy’s Cove, a small fishing village that has become a major attraction, is worth the short drive.
The Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron (RNSYS) in Halifax is the oldest yacht club in North America, dating to 1837. The British monarchy granted use of the term “Royal” after the Prince of Wales—later King Edward VII—spent time in Halifax and became the club’s first Patron. Prince Philip is the current Patron. The RNYS hosts numerous sailing events and is particularly involved with events for disabled sailors.
