Apostle Islands, WI
The 22 Apostle Islands off the northern Wisconsin shore of Lake Superior enclose an area of hundreds of square miles and create a delightful cruising ground, shielded from the worst onslaughts of Lake Superior.
Gouged out by glaciers, the island shores are rugged and rocky and without natural harbors. Cruising among them from a base at one of the several area marinas provides beautiful vistas of rock face, forest and beaches. Each island is worth circling and some make nice lunch stops.
