FL: Tampa Bay, Howard Frankland I-275 Bridges, Construction
- Date Reported: Nov 20, 2024
- Reporter: Ted Stehle
- Source: CG 7th District LNM 0747/24
- Description:
Archer Western/Traylor Bros. JV is continuing construction of the new I-275 Howard Frankland Bridge crossing Old Tampa Bay. Bridge work will be performed 24 hours per day through January 31, 2025, Monday through Saturday. Channel traffic will be obstructed north of the existing fender for installation of the fender system on the new Howard Frankland Bridge. Crane/material barges and tugboats will be actively working while the channel is obstructed, and barges can be moved out of the channel within 30minutes to an hour. During construction the channel will be impeded by approximately 5 feet on both sides of the channel for installation of the pile templates. This impedance is on the east and west side of the fender system. Templates will be installed 24 hours a day until construction is complete. Twelve temporary 36-inch steel pilings have been installed for the purpose of mooring barges used during the construction. Each pile is lighted on the top with a white solar powered 360-degree light and banded near the top with retroreflective tape. The pilings have been installed north of the roadway in a line from 27-55-17.787N / 082-36-36.686W to 27-55-12.639N /082-36-49.280W near the western terminus of the bridge. VHF-FM radio channels 13, 22A and 16 are being monitored. Mariners are advised to use caution for the duration of the construction work at this location.
