MA: Saugus River, Channel Closure

- Description: Mass DOT is continuing construction of
the new Belden Bly (Route 107) Drawbridge over the Saugus River. From December 9th, 2024, through January 12th, 2025, SPS New England will stage a tug and excavator barge downstream of the bridge to install a new water main. During this period vessels will be able to transit the channel with 30 minutes advanced notice to the on-scene vessel. From January 13th, 2025, through January 26th, 2025, the navigable channel will be closed to all vessel traffic as the water main is prepped to be submerged. A 30x80 work barge will be staged across the channel at the bridge opening. Additionally, a 100-yard Safety Zone will be established for the duration of the channel closure. The drawbridge operator will maintain a radio watch from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. During the channel restrictions, work hours will be work hours will be 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. 7 days a week. On scene work vessels will monitor VHF-FM Ch 13/16.
