General/Bridges/Construction From: 2025-03-17 To: 2029-11-30 Location: 35.89975° N / 76.00926° W Bridge Name: United States 64 Highway Bridge Mariners are advised that an engineering firm, on behalf of North Carolina Department of Transportation, will be performing construction on the US 64 (Alligator River Bridge) Bridge over AICW (Alligator River), mile 83.5, between Dare and Tyrrell County, NC. Construction began on February 14, 2025, and will continue through November 30, 2029, Monday through Sunday, 24 hours per day. Detailed project information and information concerning waterway closures will be provided via updated local notice to mariners, broadcast notice to mariners and/or marine safety information bulletins. To facilitate bridge construction, two temporary crane work trestles will be constructed alongside the location of replacement bridge, one to the south on the west side approach and one to the north on the east side approach. One temporary material/load out trestle will be constructed off the western shoreline to the south of the location of the replacement bridge. All temporary trestles will remain in place for the duration of construction and will not affect the horizontal and vertical clearances of the existing bridge. Mooring piles (19) will be constructed outside the navigational channel to secure material barges during daily operations and inclement weather and three mooring anchoring locations will be temporally used for barges and will be outside the navigational channel. Work vessels barges may be reached on VHF-FM channel 13 and 16. The project foreman may be reached at (850) 461-6116. Mariners should use extreme caution when navigating through the area.
