Maintenance work will take place at the S Halstead St Bridge over the Calumet waterway from March 24, 2026, through September 1, 2026. During this period, scaffolding will be suspended under the bridge, hanging no more than 2-feet below low steel. The scaffolding will display steady burning yellow lights on the bottom and four corners to warn mariners of the temporary reduction in vertical clearance.
Between the hours of 0600 and 1800, Monday through Saturday, a barge will be on-site monitoring VHF Channel 16. The barge will require a 1-hour advance notice to accommodate vessels needing passage. For more information or to coordinate transit, contact the project team at 312-744-3328.
