NH: Piscataqua River - Little Bay, General Sullivan Bridge, Demolition Operations
- Date Reported: Mar 31, 2026
- Reporter: Waterway Guide Staff
- Source: USCG District 1
- Description:
Demolition activities have commenced for the General Sullivan Bridge across Little Bay, mile 0.1, between Newington and Dover, NH. These operations are scheduled to continue through March 31, 2027. Work trestles have been constructed from both banks, reducing the navigable channel width to 160 feet.
A temporary work platform will be suspended over the navigable channel starting on or about April 1, 2026. This platform will not reduce the vertical clearance further than the adjacent Spaulding Turnpike Bridge, which currently provides a clearance of 53 feet at mean high water. Between April 1, 2026, and August 28, 2026, there will be short-duration channel closures to facilitate the removal of the bridge deck and superstructure. These closures will be announced via Broadcast Notice to Mariners and updates to the Local Notice to Mariners.
Work hours for this project are 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Mariners are advised to exercise caution and can contact on-scene project managers via VHF channels 13 or 16, or by calling 207-841-1902.
