We stayed five nights in DC at the Capital Yacht Club and it was a great place to stay. Right in the middle of the newly developed Wharf area of Southwest DC, this area is thriving with nightlife, restaurants, music venues, and more to complement your visit to the capital city. If you care to take in some live sports, the Washington Nationals's stadium is only a short Uber ride, as is the Spirit soccer team's stadium.
Transportation options abound with the free Wharf shuttle to the Metro and of course, Washington National airport right across the River.

The CYC staff were very nice and helpful and their property and docks are gorgeous. Pumpout is available in slip, Laundry and restrooms are great, the restaurant is open from Happy Hour onward.

We really enjoyed wheeling around the capital on eBikes from Capital Bikeshare and saw just about every one of the larger monuments by riding around town.

7-1-24 Very helpful friendly staff. This marina is in the middle of the Wharf Waterfront, a mile long stretch along the Potomac River with marinas, a pier, restaurants, retailers, residences, and businesses and only a few blocks from the Washington D.C. National Mall, a landscaped park near the downtown area of Washington, D.C. It contains and borders several museums of the Smithsonian Institution, art galleries, institutions, and various memorials, sculptures, and statues. Washington DC has a great, clean, safe, and inexpensive transit system, and a free shuttle from the marina to the National Mall. Uber and Lyft is also very reasonable.

Excellent stay - great facilities, great location for seeing DC on foot or by public transportation, and the members are incredibly welcoming and helpful.

If up for a walk, can get to Jefferson and Washington Monuments as well as the Mall/Smithsonian. But there is also the $1 Circulator that can get you to all the big sites and/or Metro. More restaurants than you can count right there, plus the Club has a restaurant and events that you are invited to.
The Club is very dog friendly, but you do have to walk out of the promenade area a block or so and across Maine Ave to find some grass.

Capital Yacht Club is a private club that will accept transients for short stay if a cruising member's slip is open. If you are lucky enough to find an available slip you will be perfectly positioned to enjoy your visit to the nation's Capitol while enjoying the amenities and security of a premier private yacht club.

Enter the Washington Channel between Haines Point and Fort McNair north of Green "11" and continue up the channel approximately 1.5 miles to the marina which is just beyond the Wharf Marina. The docks at both the Wharf and Capital Yacht clubs are well marked. The docks belonging to the Capital Yacht Club are "A", "B", and "C". Slips are also clearly marked. There will be someone from the club on the dock to assist you with line handling. Armani and David assisted us and were helpful, friendly, and professional. Slips are single bay (finger docks on both sides of the slip) so you will have a choice as which side you wish to tie up. Power and water are dedicated to each slip and have no issues. Docks are floating concrete so set your fenders to low level. There is no current flowing through the channel. Depth at the dock is over 20 feet. As you are now guests at a private club you will be given security keys, a list of club rules, and will be granted access to the club amenities. The amenities include immaculate bath/showers, a laundry room with five sets of washer/dryers ($1.75 per wash or dry, coins or credit cards), a wonderful Captain's lounge with cooking facilities, a conference/library room, a full restaurant/bar, bike racks, a workout area, and more. In slip pump outs can be scheduled. Yacht club Wi-Fi is adequate but as you are in downtown DC, cellular reception is excellent. The club is dog friendly. The lovely Southwest Waterfront Park is 4/10ths of a mile south along the promenade.

The Capital Yacht Club sits in the middle of the newly renovated Wharf area of Southwest Washington. Quite literally outside the front gate to the club there is a mile long promenade with shops, restaurants, boutiques, and other stores (more restaurants and shops coming soon in the newer buildings). Grocery and drug stores are a half mile away as is an Enterprise Rent-a-Car location. The National Mall is about a mile and a half walk or, if you prefer, you can take the free District Wharf SW Neighborhood Shuttle (bus stop 350 feet from clubhouse in front of CVS) and the DC Circulator to visit almost all points of interest all the way out to Arlington National Cemetery. Both shuttle bus systems have online tracking. The DC Metro system can be reached by taking the SW Neighborhood Shuttle to L'Enfant Plaza.

As a place to base your stay in Washington DC, you cannot do better than this. We were recognized as guests by the members and felt that we were warmly welcomed at their wonderful club. While $3.00 per foot may seem high, one has to remember that a room at one of the hotels in the area will start at $300 per night.

The friendliest marina we've stayed at. Everyone was extremely welcoming. The facility is incredible and the location is even better with lots to walk to and do.

We had the best 4th of July experience we could have ever imagined.

Excellent updated facility and location adjacent to The Wharf and waterfront restaurants. Floating docks. Current charge $3 per ft.. Excellent WiFi.. Walking distance to Capital Mall/Washington Monument. Metro and Safeway 0.4 miles. CVS 1 block away. Friendly, helpful staff and members.. Club's upper deck bar and restaurant open Thur, Fri, Sat and available to transients. Great food and very reasonably priced.. Pass card security. Pump out at slip. Recycling. Large laundry facility takes coins or credit card. Can be noisy at times during day due to large helicopter and airplane flight paths over river. Wish we had the time to stay longer!

We'd been here in 2015 while the new waterfront was under construction. Now the waterfront is inviting and beautiful. Capital Yacht Club offers an upscale building to go with their nice floating docks and a great bunch of welcoming members. Half a bock away, up Sutton toward Maine there is a parking garage for visitors and a bus stop. Within walking distance there are plenty of stores and numerous ways to get around the city, if that's what you want to do. However, we mostly enjoy the waterfront, Capital Yacht Club facilities, and the ambiance of being in Washington, DC on the waterfront.

The absolutely best place to stay if you are visiting D.C. for the first time. The CYC members and staff make you to feel at home in their fabulous clubhouse. A convenient, free shuttle bus makes a run every 15 minutes to a Metro station and The National Mall. A Safeway grocery store literally requires only a 10 minute walk to obtain provisions. Fresh seafood of almost any variety can be found at the Seafood Market, a short stroll from the Yacht Club. There aren't many transient slips available, so make your request as far in advance as possible.
