Marina Review for Erie Basin Marina

Marina does not answer phone or return messages. I made multiple attempts with no success. Staff at the fuel dock acted like they had never handled a line and assisted tying up. They were quite proficient at accepting payment. For a transient dock for 1 overnight, they had run out of fobs to use the facilities. The transient dock wall was so bumpy and rolling I didn't feel safe enough to get off the boat and connect electric. So for $2 a foot I got no bathroom access and no electricity, just an extremely bumpy all night roll. I read the reviews and thought how bad can it be for 1 night, I would not stay there again.

Docks are simply unsafe given the Harbor conditions. Three strikes for this Marina. I made a reservation was assigned a dock, 30 minutes out I confirmed, but on arrival that dock was taken. Strike 1. My power pedestal was being used by another boat. I asked if I should use the cross dock. That power didn't work. On the positive side the office sent one to check the power, removed the other boats cords and I had power. This was followed by a screaming session from the technician blaming me for the problem. Strike 2. Finally the docks. Upon arrival I tied off to the aluminum cleats. A local advised I should use the posts. I changed a few things. A few hours later another local told me my boat was in perilous danger as tied to the dock. Bottom line - you can't use the cleats AT ALL too flimsy. We spider web the boat using the outside poles. During the night a raging storm hit and quite honestly it felt like the middle of the lake, not a safe harbor. Any wind from the north but especially north east comes off the lake, hits the City Pier and ricochets to the end of the transient. This is a problem known to all locals. Strike 3.

Good stop and location. I intended to stay 1 night and stayed 5 due to a mechanical issue then a weather no go call. They gave me the name and number of a marine service company that did great and fast work rebuilding my alternator. Docks, showers and customer service were all first rate. Teresa is a gem. Trolley and buses are free till the end of august. Really enjoyed El Amigo Mexican restaurant just a couple blocks away. Lots of choices in Erie but this is a good one.

They are very responsive to VHF radio hails. I was also delighted when the guy in the golf cart was racing to the dock to provide assistance. He also raced to the office with my credit card with payment as it is a bit of a walk. Transients are lined up on a long wall to the left as you enter the Marina. The showers are just adequate. They do rent bikes, have $5 pump out and sell gas. The state park lodge with a restaurant is close by, bar is nice. The down town or what that call the strip is a long walk on a hot day. It's a sort of throw back to the 1950's but worth a gander. Eddie's Grill is a quaint must stop. The primary reason for only 3 stars was the laundry was broken and it was a primary reason for a second night stop.

Marina Review for Conneaut Boat Club

The Conneaut Boat Club is an interesting place, it's really operated like a club. They have a single transient slip that is first come first served. If you are lucky to get it as I was on a Saturday it is a great place to stay over night. The club beer were $2. The BBQ Breakwall is a short walk with good food and the night I was there, live entertainment. It's a bit tricky because if you don't get the 1 slip The Conneaut Port Authority is not a good option if you are a larger boat.

I made a reservation about 4 days out for a Saturday night. I clearly stated my boat was 37 feet and they are supposed to accommodate up to 40 but not really. When I called about 45 minutes out to get a dock assignment and approach instructions I was told I was too big and would have to tie to "the wall". The dockmaster was too busy selling gas to have a real conversation. I realized "the wall" was a scary structure with exposed metal and no water and no power. However, the worst part was the opening for the break wall was directly in front of the tie up, subjecting the boat to waves from all boat traffic and rollers off the lake. If you can't fit inside I do not recommend this facility.

My favorite place to dock in Lake Erie. Docks and cleats were in good repair. The restrooms and showers were clean. The dock master was immediately responsive to arrival and departure and provided assistance. But the location is the real reason for the rating. Close to beach and beautiful sunset as well as charming downtown.
