Fowl Cay-Berry Islands

Description:
There is a patch of sand on the west side of Fowl Cay that offers acceptable holding in settled conditions. The area is relatively large but there is only room for one vessel in this anchorage because a strong tidal current makes the water very turbulent. In the band between 150 -100 yds of the Cay there is less turbulence. The bottom is hard and the holding poor closer in to the Cay.

This was our second time visiting this anchorage. Just about a year later. Excellent anchorage. This time we had NNE winds in the 20s and we anchored on the northwest side of Fowl. There was significant current coming between Fowl and Hoffman's that put us at a 45 degree angle to the wind. It wasn't bad, but I'd recommend anchoring just E or SE of Fowl if wind is NNE to NE.

This is a stunning anchorage area close to Hoffman's Cay and the Blue Hole. Depths in the area vary and will accommodate most boats. As the route to Hoffman's was quite shallow, continuing to that anchorage should only be considered with shallow draft boats and during high tide.
