The anchorage is excellent by NE and E, this area is deeper than the anchorage further north. Use Explorer maps which are just unlike Navionics.
The must is to go with the annex to do the "river dinghy" a little before high tide to benefit from the rising current, you enter through the middle of the island and you exit to the north, go see the sea on the side is, it's absolutely magnificent.
In the south, lots of things to do tooView location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

Draft: 5.0'Overall Rating:5Holding:5Wind Protection:3Current Flow:4Wake Protection:4Scenic Beauty:5Shore Access:5Shroud Cay is a great spot with something for everyone. The S. Mooring field has a lot of balls -all in good shape. but also large areas in 8-10' MLW to anchor -just remember to pay on line whether you anchor or use a ball. The S. anchorage is more exposed to the SE than the N. Both are totally open to the W.
There are great expanses of mangroves to explore by kayak or SUP - just watch the tide as the creeks can run for miles and many start their trip with the flood tide only to discover they have to fight the Ebb tide on the way back also.
The dinghy cruise begins an hour before high tide at the N end of the N Shroud Cay Anchorage & is shown on Explorer charts. When you come to the Large T junction where the turtles hang out, make sure you take the Lt turn and you will see the Sound shortly thereafter. (The Right turn runs for 3/4 mile mid Cay before becoming too shallow for O/B's. though Kayaks can complete the loop.)
By dinghy, there are several shallow spots near the entrance as well as the T junction but generally 3-6' 1hr either side of high tide. There is a small picturesque beach at the Sound entrance to the creek. Just around the point you will see the rocky scramble up to "Camp Driftwood" with nice views thru the palm trees over the Sound and Banks.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

Beautiful anchorage and easy to get to. However it is terrible in West winds, even in the 10-15 knot range. Between the waves coming in from the west and bouncing off the rocks on Normans, you will rock and roll 100 degrees plus as a monohull and hobbyhorse if you're a cat. We had a beautiful time there prior to west winds, but one of the worst nights ever in west winds. Cell service ok for ALIV and BTC

Draft: 6.2'Overall Rating:5Holding:5Wind Protection:2Wake Protection:2Scenic Beauty:5Shore Access:4Pet Friendly:3Cell Service:3With our draft of 6.2' the more protected northern mooring field seems to shallow, so we took a mooring close to the south side of the land spit. We came in on a true 90° COG with never less than 3.0m over sand at low tide. The mooring is one of the best we have ever seen with a floating pennant easy to connect to. - To the east is a tiny beach (not at high tide) where kind of a steal mailbox is installed to collect the park fees, but the forms box was empty and during the 4 days we stayed here, nobody else was visiting the box. Hope everyone will pay via internet or at the Park Station. There are about 14 moorings and 6 at the northern field.
A highlight is the very shallow winding creek through mangroves to the eastern side. Beautiful beach and breathtaking water colors best viewed from the tiny hill of "Driftwood Camp". Don't miss it.
For internet we received ALIV with a hotspot-tablet pulled up at the mast.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer
