Description:
Holding here is less than ideal as heavy patches of kelp foul the bottom. In addition to double-checking for a secure set, choose a spot well within the V, standing clear of vessels on course from the east entrance through the breakwater to the dredged channel (beginning at the west entrance) leading into Point Judith Pond.

This is a popular stop for vessels transiting along the RI coast during fair weather. The breakwater will keep most of the swell out, but plenty of wraparound keeps you rocking and rolling. There's no wind protection here; this is a calm weather stop on your way someplace else--more properly, a roadstead, not an anchorage.
Holding was good in 20 feet MLW.
