The west entrance is deeper. Stick close to the west shore going through the lobster pots. There are concealed mid tide granite ledges on the east side of the west channel.
Holding ground is excellent, current slight. There is a public landing at the northwest corner of the cove which itself is protected by several small islands called The Nubbins. BUT, you can reach the ramp only at mid to high tide. It's a 2 mile walk to Archie Wallace's market, the only store in town, 1 Mile to the Friendship museum. Lobster at "Brian's wharf" - owned by Harvester (55 foot lobster boat). Peaceful anchorage, beautiful spot. Once you are in the cove there are no significant hazards.
There is no fuel dock in nearby Friendship harbor. The Friendship Lobstermens Co-op is hit or miss for anyone from away. If you go early, stay out of the way and behave yourself you might be able to buy fuel.
The town dock in Friendship harbor is OK for a quick tie up for loading and unloading.
If you don't have a dinghy neither Hatchet Cove nor Friendship harbor itself is the place for you.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer
