When approaching from the north go at least 200 yards south of the red buoy marking the island at 143.1 before turning off the channel and moving over to the chute between Kelly's Island and the LDB. Move north in the chute aided by the 1+ mph current and move over to either the LDB or the shore side of Kelly's Island paying attention to several snags in the area. Depth in the chute is about 25' winter pool. Anchor in 15 to 20 feet of water facing upstream and make sure that you have a strong anchor set as you will be spending the night with current and whatever wind there is. Anchor alarm and anchor trip lines are recommended. Boat will stay aligned with the current unless there is a very strong wind from the north. Excellent wind protection for winds from the southeast around to the northwest. Good holding in mud, fair wake protection behind the island, and river traffic is far enough away so the noises are not a problem. No shore access, no cell service. Room for four to six boats along the shoreline. Consider Double Island Anchorage at mm 149 as a better alternative.
