Devil Door Rapids - Bad River

Lat / Lon: N 45° 56.220' / W 080° 58.479'
Description: There are tie-up pins on the walls in the eastern finger of water. There is good holding and good protection in the inner area except for in front of Devil Door Rapids, where the force of the rapids has scoured the bottom and makes holding poor. Strong southerly winds blow right up the channel, so anchor with that in mind.

Devil Door Rapids on the Bad River was a very nice anchorage. We anchored in a small cove about 25 yards off the shoreline in 16 feet of water. The botton is very sticky mud. A wind shift was predicted during the early morning hours, so we set a stern anchor and had no problems. The scenery is beautiful, and if you are adventurous, you can shoot the Devil Door Rapids just up the channel. This area is not particularly pet friendly in that the shoreline is mostly rocky cliffs. However, we were able to get the dogs ashore on a couple of the sloping rocks.

Great anchorage. If you take your dinghy through the Devils Door, stay to the right to avoid rocks, also once through the door and about 100' in there is a rock. I would not advise running any of the other rapids unless you know what you are doing, you could find yourself in trouble.

Another stop with gorgeous scenery. Anchorage was great with good protection and holding. Took the dinghy through the channels to the rapids, and it was amazing. Must see in our book! Lovely.
