    Goat Island
    #anchoragereview
This anchorage was great. I had to come in in the dark, and probably annoyed six or eight fishermen in bass boats, one in particular. He was fishing in my anchorage before I got there. Not MY fault. I kid. I gave him 180 feet. But the best anchorage is on the north side of the island, tucked into a little almost-but-not-quite cove. It's completely protected from river traffic, and unless someone is HUGGING the north side of the island, well protected from any OTHER traffic. I anchored in thirty feet of water less than one hundred feet from shore (but at least one hundred and eight feet from the fisherman). The entire area was silent and calm as a millpond all night long. Nothing but the sound of a few hundred peepers along the shore. The next morning the anchor came up effortlessly, but carrying about ten pounds of clay. I plan to anchor here again.

Great anchorage beautiful. Short run to the dam. Near Honeycomb State Park and Erwin Marina store so you can stretch your legs. Very close to a gray bat cave that is pretty popular for boaters in the evenings!
