Not much wind protection since the surrounding land is low lying. Very little to no current in this area due to the lock. Be aware of the 65' overhead cables near G15 if you have a tall mast.

If the winds are from the west or northwest this anchorage will be rocky. Stop in the 6-8 foot water depth on the west side of gull island for some wave protection if a blow comes from the north or east. It has a great access to the lock for staging for Bahamas as well as a prefect vantage point for a liftoff from the launch sites. We took the dingy to Island Time Marina on Banana River for a 3 block walk to the touristy area of Cocoa Beach.
