We anchored in 7 feet of water about 0.5 miles NNE of the anchor icon about 100 yards behind a small island and a small spit of land. We had good protection from easterly to ESE wind. In a W to NW wind, we would have anchored on the other side of the island and probably been just fine.
Anchor set quickly and came up only slightly muddy. The island itself had a campsite with a fire ring, picnic table, and a grill.

This is a handy essentially roadstead type anchorage with the added benefit that the two small islands (East & North of the WW GUIDE Anchor each have sand spits on their W sides that can break any wave action. We have anchored behind both several times and found the holding solid in thick black mud as mixed with fine shells. At night there is no boat traffic. But weekends a
Patently local traffic will steer anchor to the islands and party on the San spits.
Fun to watch the pelicans roost at dusk on the more S island but be a bit smelly!
Approach is straight forward from green 21 with 7' right up close to the islands proper. This year we did hear a clunk passing to the E of the more N island, (we have a full keel protecting running gear) probably a piece of a previous wreck?

This is a bad place to anchor. The bottom is like 90 weight gear oil. We spent one night here and drifted many times. Ultimately hitting a sandbar. Stay away!

Indian River was very choppy due to bad weather and high winds. Anchored close to the island in the cove which provided very good protection. We had a bit of rolling, but didn't get bounced around too much. We are on a catamaran with shallow draft so we were able to get close to the island out of the wind. Beautiful, tiny island with many pelicans and other birds nesting there. Good place to stop in a pinch... 5-6 foot depth close to the island, but shallower areas as well..

Sorry, but 3 bad experiences: young people was noisy: generator for the week-end party, outboard racing after midnight. And in last weeks, the top: shooting guns on the birds in the evening. No more for me!!

5-8 foot depths just off ICW. An okay spot for the night. Spoil island nearby for dog walking. Transiting vessels on ICW will cause wakes.
