After coming through a very busy Blackwater Sound and passing Gilberts Resort on our way to the anchorage we did not know what to expect when we came out of the connecting creek and entered Barnes Sound. We were pleased to discovered an undeveloped nature preserve with tree-lined shores and virtually no traffic except a few boats passing through. We left the channel mid lake and headed NE in 10 feet of water to the NE corner of the bay finding 10 feet of water at the anchorage icon. We anchored about a mile SE of the icon, still in 10 feet of water with excellent holding in a sandy mud with a lot of seagrass on the bottom, good wind and wave protection for winds from the North to the Southeast. There was no current but we had all the swing room that we needed. We spent an extra day waiting out 20-30 mph winds in comfort. There was no boat traffic to speak of anywhere near our location. Our closest neighbor was a visiting manatee. Cell reception was good to very good for the big three carriers. There was no shore access but we were content to rest on the boat and do chores while we waited. We anchored far enough from shore that there was no bug problem at all. We would definitely plan on using this anchorage again.

Nice spot to relax away from everything on way through keys. Good fishing and dingy through mangroves.
