Manasota Key - Englewood Beach

Description:
The anchorage is reached by heading southwest between lighted red daybeacon 22 and the Tom Adams Bascule Bridge. Buildings around the anchorage help to protect visiting yachts from buffeting winds. If you continue south, hugging the mangroves, you will be sheltered from all directions. Watch depths closely. A convenience store and souvenir shop, dive shops, restaurants and the beach are across the street.
NOTE: Per Florida Statute 327.4109

The owner or operator of a vessel or floating structure may not anchor or moor such that the nearest approach of the anchored or moored vessel or floating structure is:
1. Within 150 feet of any marina, boat ramp, boatyard, or other vessel launching or loading facility;
2. Within 300 feet of a superyacht repair facility. For purposes of this subparagraph, the term "superyacht repair facility" means a facility that services or repairs a yacht with a water line of 120 feet or more in length; or
3. Within 100 feet outward from the marked boundary of a public mooring field or a lesser distance if approved by the commission upon request of a local government within which the mooring field is located. The commission may adopt rules to implement this subparagraph.

Good holding and protection. Very shallow entrance at low tide. Did not try to go to shore.

Didn't proceed up to the spot indicated on the Waterway Guide chart. Anchored in the 8' spot instead. Very quiet and pleasant. No bugs this far out.

Visited 1/23/2021. Homes on west side. Neighbors all know each other and very respectful. As a result wakes were minimal considering the amount of traffic. It was a Saturday. Several abandoned or sunk boats around give it a junk yard feel. For that reason we will only stop again out of necessity. Holding and protection is good. Bar music drifting through the air was pleasant. Didn't go ashore this time to avoid dealing with covid, but things ashore may raise the value of a stop here. Mosquitos very bad at sunset, but not present in the morning, so breakfast in the cockpit was wonderful. Overall a pleasant stop.

We stayed Feb 10 2019 and there was room for several boats. Three boats are sunken and a few others abandoned. The mangrove island is good to row and fish around. Numerous boats go through the anchorage but they keep their speed down. Music from the beach bar can be heard. Watch your depth coming in from the ICW but then it gets deeper.
