We swung with the current until the tide change us 180 degrees. We were at 29°43'47.3"N 84°58'42.4"W and were able to get to shore easily to take the dog for a walk.

Draft: 4.0'Overall Rating:4Holding:4Wind Protection:3Current Flow:3Wake Protection:3Scenic Beauty:5Shore Access:4Cell Service:4There is plenty of depth and room to the easy of the marked channel from this market (near day beacon "2") up to the rear range light/marker. The river's current, which can run up to 1-1/2 to 2kt, will override most, although at the height of the flood tide, with a south wind you may run up over your anchor or otherwise lay in strange ways. For the most part though, you'll face north.
Just across the river is the city's wharf which is free for day use. It's not an ideal dinghy dock (the dock is a bit high) but the location—in the heart of Apalachicola—makes it worth the effort.
With a light breeze or better, the no-see-ums and mosquitoes are as tolerable as one can expect in FL. Right now, in April, the temps have been cool enough to keep them both at bay.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

You're in the Apalachicola River current, and no protection from winds. Very little traffic so it's a quiet anchorage. Shore access is by dinghy to the Battery Park (Municipal) Marina. Plenty of places there to tie up and it's a few blocks walk to restaurants, the post office, and about 1/2 mile to the supermarket.
A scenic river town that still shows damage from Hurricane Michael (2018). A quiet place to visit for a few days.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer
