MJC is a preferred overnight anchorage. This is predominantly a residential area, no shopping and the nearest store is in Thomaston, roughly 20 miles up river. Local lobsters can be acquired at the Olson dock on the North side of MJC, on the way in.

Allen and Benner should be considered as one in that they are the property of the Wyeth Family (Andrew Wyeth, '17-'09). The passage between the two is narrow but friendly but not a good anchorage due to traffic. There is history here and it is worth visiting by boat. Because they are private, one should not go ashore without permission.

Burnt is totally protected from prevailing S/W winds. It is a stopover location for the Outward Bound School. Little Burnt can be easily approached at low tide by beaching on the connecting sand bar. This is an excellent stopping place either on water or ashore. Both islands are uninhabited, except as noted above
