Free Dock Review for Stuart Riverside Pier

From Green '23' head approx. 200 degrees to the entrance buoys. Five foot approach and dockside depths, slightly more in some limited areas; tidal range 1'-1.5'. Outside dock lined with rubber bumpers, many of which are loose or down. Exposed fasteners are present in these areas. The outside edge of the dock is exposed to waves and wakes. Inside of the dock much more protected from waves and wakes, except from the easterly directions. Large pilings line the inside of the dock, spaced approximately 40 feet apart. Many 'slips' along this dock have three cleats, others just two, some zero.
Some smaller boat slips present, perpendicular to the dock on the west side. Note the yellow 'no docking' paint around cleats on the far end of dock. At the time of this writing, 10-24-24, they do not appear to be in service, though a call to the city of Stuart may clarify this. This dock abuts to downtown Stuart with choices of many restaurants, some 'tourist' shopping; Publix and more retail shopping approximately one mile distance along the River Walk, then along Hwy 1.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

This dock, in addition to the city docks is extremely popular when the shrimp are running- July-October... very noisy, especially evenings, well into the night.

We found the approach to this dock, in front of Amaris Bank building to be 4'6" at MLW. This bar seems to be located approximately 15 feet off of the dock. Water is approximately 2' deeper next to the dock and riverside of this bar.

Marina Review for Utsch's Marina

Entrance is tight along the facing of the marina's bulkhead with the turn into the marina hidden though marked with a small Dutch Windmill. Marina is old and can be considered rundown. Fairways are narrow and suited for boats under 40 feet, though thrusters could be of benefit maneuvering within the marina. Most of the finger piers that we made note of where short or very short, though might be longer if choosey with which slip to accept. Though the turn into the fuel dock is tight, there is some wideness at the dock to allow minimal maneuvering. The dinghy dock that is offered to cruising folks is at the inner end of a narrow floating dock, under the ramp that leads to shore and provides little head room and poor tie offs if any. Having arrived only for fuel, the offered restroom consisted of a port-a-potty, though there may be other restrooms and showers for slip holders. Service was adequate and reservedly friendly.

To anchor, we stayed midway in entrance, then headed approximately 190 degrees, staying approximately 50 feet off islands to southwest. Saw approximately 6-15 feet MLLW until in southwest corner. Charted depths are not correct and caution needed while sounding into Lake. Might be easier when nav. aids are present. Tidal Range 5 feet. Bottom is soft mud.

Anchorage Review for Conway - Waccamaw River

Draft: 4.8'Overall Rating:5Holding:5Wind Protection:5Current Flow:5Wake Protection:5Scenic Beauty:5Ease of Shopping:3Shore Access:5Pet Friendly:5Cell Service:5WiFi:5City of Conway, SC approximately 15 miles from ICW; several opportunities to anchor along the way. Downtown has marina with transient slips. Well maintained free floating docks immediately north side of second bridge, adjacent to downtown area; no power or water, but in a no wake zone. River typically 10-12 foot depths during normal river levels. Two fixed bridges with minimal clearance of 35 feet prior to reaching town. Overhead power lines with 45'+ clearance before these bridges are reached. Currents mild and reverse. To avoid easily made wrong turns, recommend obtaining chart of river at Osprey Marina. Although the chart shows ATONS all the way to Conway, in 2020 they actually stop at Red Number 4. Anchorage 50 feet away from, but across from free floating docks. Two other single vessel docks south of second bridge, also adjacent to downtown, with power outlets operated by marina. Restaurants and 'downtown' stores within blocks. Grocery stores, drug stores, Walmart and others within biking distance on sidewalks. Rental cars available, at least one with pickup and drop off service.
