Be prepared to stay put for a while. Opening doesn't happen that quickly. Patience is a virtue! Make sure you arrive with plenty of slack time. Our mast is 80 feet so we made sure the bridge operator understood that we need the full height.
My mate asked me a few times: "Is the bridge really up all the way?" With a confident voice, I said "Yes"
