Tom in the Dockmaster's office of Key West Bight Marina was extremely rude during our recent visit!! When we arrived, we anchored in Fleming Key and took our dinghy to shore and immediately went into the office to purchase a dinghy dock pass for the week. We had planned on being there for 5 days then heading out to the Dry Tortugas. We were told that the only way they would sell us a dinghy dock pass was if we agreed to register for a local pump out service which would come once a week. We explained that we were cruisers and not local liveaboards and that we would not be there for more than a week but Tom insisted, so we signed up for it online anyway. The day that they were supposed to come for a pump out, there was very high wind and they never showed up. We went to Conch Harbor marina next door and got a pump out later that week before heading to the Dry Tortugas. When we got back, we planned to stay in Key West for a few days until the weather calmed down then planned to head to Marathon. We again tried purchasing the dinghy pass for those few days and Tom told us we could not because we weren't on his pump out list. We told him we signed up for it, showed him the email confirmation that we registered, and also offered to show proof of our recent pump out from the neighboring marina, but he refused to look at it and said it wasn't his problem and refused us the dinghy pass. My husband was originally dealing with Tom and I came in halfway through the conversation. I asked Tom several questions and he just stared at me and would not speak to me, only my husband. He was sexist and extremely disrespectful. As we were leaving with a very bad taste in our mouth of this marina, we observed another guest having a bad experience as well. He was trying to get a slip for his boat and had been coming there for the past 10 years. He was told there is a new rule that any boat over 18' had to pay more. The customer assured him that the boat was 17'6" and Tom started arguing with him saying they their records showed his boat was 18' from previous years. This guest even pulled up manufacturer's specs on his boat and showed Tom, but again, Tom refused to look or care. Tom needs to be fired and should never be in a customer facing job ever again. He is unnecessarily rude to paying customers and forced out a lot of business that day by his refusal to think outside the box. Very disappointed in this marina!
