Marina Review for TPG Marinas Conanicut

This is an open roadstead mooring field off Jamestown. Aesthetically, Jamestown is great and the marina is right downtown which makes it super easy to walk to shops, restaurants etc. Launch service is prompt and courteous. Shore facilities are good and they have a nice restaurant right on the pier. Docks are in good shape and according to their site they can handle all manner of repairs. Prompt reservation confirmation. Moorings are are pricey at $100/night, but a decent choice if you want to see Jamestown. As this is an open field the wave action can be problematic. Prevailing SW winds put you broad-side to the fairway and incoming wakes from vessels transiting in/out of Jamestown (ferries) as well as larger vessels on Narragansett Bay. At times (frequently) 2-3' wakes rolled through the field sending everyone (and everything) flying. This is my only complaint, but visitors should be well aware and secure their vessels properly. Overnight it calmed down.

I stayed here in the Fall 2022 and enjoyed its in-town location. I came back this Spring on my way North and it was even better than I remembered. Great location; helpful staff; and brand-new bathroom/showers. Very enjoyable.

This was a really nice stay. Grounds are well maintained; you have access to the Seaport; and the docks are new as are the marina guest facilities. Dock staff super nice and helpful.

Requested transient dockage through the website as instructed by their phone instructions. This is through Snag-A-Slip. App indicated no moorings available, so requested dock space at $5/ft. No response so, called the next day. Concierge lady was very nice and tried to help but couldn't find the request. Transferred me to the dock house to book directly. No answer - went to VM and I left a detailed message. No call back after an hour, so I started calling. After another couple hours and 4 separate attempts to reach the dock house I gave up.

Tried to book transient mooring using Dockwa as they recommended. No response to the request after numerous follow-ups and no response to my phone call and voice mail. They advertise reciprocal privileges and I let them know that I'm a member of a participating YC. Surprised at the lack of follow-through.

While I stand by the previous one I must mention that I was verbally accosted by a 'Town Marina resident' this morning when I asked him to restrain his dog. I wanted to use the bathroom so I tied my dog 50' away from the building to avoid any altercations. His dogs were running free and started approaching mine which is when I asked whether his dog was going to leave mine alone. Mine does not like small dogs and I didn't want an issue. He took extreme offense to this request and even accused me of lying about having paid a fee / gained permission to use the locked facilities. How else was I going to use them if I didn't have the code? This experience marred an otherwise nice visit and ruined my Sunday morning. Completely unacceptable any time but especially on public property. A number of other dogs around town on leashes, but some not. Town seems to be fairly laid back in this regard which is ok, but owners have a responsibility to manage their pets.

Anchor (Rocna) set easily. Scenic and peaceful with weekend boat traffic but not bad. Land dinghy at town dock on left side by ramp. $5 a day gets you dinghy dock, bathrooms and showers. Dock master offered transportation.

Planned to anchor, however, the potential anchorage area is limited to one, maybe two boats. Basically Swan Creek Marina moorings take up the available space - which is fine, because they are very accommodating. Some vessels (cats) anchored up to the North of G15. Quintessential Chesapeake scenery. Quiet and relaxed.

Depths are as charted. Anchored at high tide in 9' and saw 6' MLW. Admittedly is was a weekend, but the small boats race through the canal and up/down the river at top speed which makes the anchorage a bit folly. Coupled with the numerous cigarette boats is was pretty noisy until well after sunset.

I've had good luck with Safe Harbor in the past. Unfortunately can't say same for these two outfits (Greenport and Stirling). Just after Labor Day - called both on radio (multiple times/channels) no answer. Called them on the phone - dock would not pick up; business office would not pick up. It was 4:30 on a Thursday. They left to go home already?? Went to Mitchell Park Marina - better response; better service; better facility. Probably cheaper too.
