Gulf of St. Lawrence: Gaspe area, QC, CAN

Gulf of St. Lawrence: Gaspe area, QC, CAN

The Gaspe area has some of the most magnificent scenery along the Down East Circle. First up is the Cap-des-Rosiers Lighthouse, a National Historic Site and Federal Heritage Building. At over 34 meters (111 feet), this is Canada’s tallest lighthouse. It was built between 1853 and 1858.

Just past the lighthouse the first towering cliffs of Forillon National Park loom. Next, boaters will be impressed by the Cap Gaspé Lighthouse. The lighthouse, which operates on solar power, sits perched on a spectacular cliff that dramatically changes in appearance as you round Shiphead Point. The town of Gaspé is a great place for provisioning.
