Waccamaw River, SC
The Waccamaw River, which starts at Mile 374, is deep to its wooded banks and is easily the most scenic part of the ICW. Moss-draped cypresses line its side streams and turtles sometimes sun themselves along the shore. Wildflowers of all descriptions grow in cypress stumps and the water looks like tea. Your boat’s bow will get a brown mustache but that is easy to remove with lemon juice or a commercial cleaner. Ospreys abound and there are some eagles. Peaceful anchorages are plentiful.
