Bridge tender didn't respond on 13, (another waiting boat talked to him on the phone) but opened right on the hour. Boards read 16 when we went under close to high tide (3.5 tide Wrightsville Beach Tide Station)

We passed at low tide and the fender boards read 25'. Please note this was a lunar low tide.

Figure Eight Bridge tender was courteous and opens on the hour and 1/2 hour as advertised.

Opens on the hour and half hour, bridge tender was extremely polite and professional - even waved out the window as we went by! If you're in a sailboat like we are, you need to be here on the top of the hour to make Wrightsville if you're heading south. We missed the top of the hour and had a long slow motor but were rewarded with a bluefish and a small spanish mackerel trolling a pink squid.

This bridge is higher than the Wrightsville Beach bridge. You may not need to have an opening of Figure 8, even if you did for Wrightsville Beach. Call the Bridge Tender on 13 and give him your height. WG says 20', but the clearance is actually more depending on the tides.

If you can run 7kn+ there is a good chance you'll make the Wrightsville Beach opening on the hour.

Such a nice bridgetender. He kept in contact with us and provided local knowledge when we lost an engine and had to wait on tow boat. Boats flying up to make the bridge and cause damage to piers with their wakes are liable for the damages.
