Detroit, MI
Detroit is a large city with far more attractions, shopping, and dining than we can cover here, so we have highlighted a few of our favorite spots below. For a comprehensive listing of shopping, attractions, and dining options both near the waterfront and in the surrounding areas check out Visitdetroit.com.
The William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor marina is located near downtown on the Detroit Riverwalk, with the historic Milliken State Park Lighthouse marking its entrance. Restaurants, groceries, bus stops, and other services are within a mile of the marina.
While we usually suggest staying near the waterfront, no visit to the "Motor City" is complete without spending a day at the Henry Ford Museum(s) in Dearborn, MI. This site features four major attractions in one, including a repository of Americana with exhibits ranging from steam engines to automobiles. Adjacent to the museum is Greenfield Village, an 80-acre living history town with over 100 historic homes and buildings and containing seven historic districts. The museum is approximately 14 miles from the Detroit waterfront and is accessible via bus (around $2.00), taxi, or ride-sharing services like Uber.
