Beyond the busy commercial area, the Jacksonville waterfront is delightful. Tranquil riverside parks and open space line both banks of the river. A variety of dining options and shops are only a block away from the 2-mile-long Northbank Riverwalk. Across the river is the 1.25-mile wooden zigzag boardwalk known as Southbank Riverwalk. A highlight is the Friendship Fountain, a huge, circular fountain with jets of water that shoot as high as 120 feet into the air.

The 110-acre Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is home to over 2,000 animals as well as botanical gardens and a train ride through the park (904-757-4463). Transportation required.
