New Haven, CT
New Haven, Connecticut’s second largest city, is situated almost 70 nm northeast of New York City. It is the home of Yale University but, as a mostly commercial port, New Haven is one of Long Island Sound’s most important harbors of refuge for commercial shipping. The harbor is industrial and busy, but there are two marinas away from the hubbub of the inner harbor that cater to visiting yachts. Downtown New Haven is only a short taxi or bus ride away from the harbor marinas.
New Haven has all the attractions of a major American city in a small, walkable package. A stroll among Yale University’s classic gargoyle halls and ivy walls, juxtaposed modern architecture, windowless secret societies and spacious college walks is worth the trip to town.
