Great experience with the staff, but the first time I had the opportunity to actually watch a tow come through. There was maybe a foot of clearance on each side of those barges. No wonder it takes them so long. If they got in a hurry, they'd destroy the lock. I'm more patient now. No complaints with my experience.

Quick, smooth ride from courteous, service-minded staff. Can you ask anything else of a lock? Not really.

Lock master told our group of ten when he thought the up bound tug would clear the lock. We left our Columbus Marina slip at 7:12. We had a short wait which we used to line up in port and starboard tie order. All 10 boats secure and gates closed at 7:51. We cleared the lock wall at 8:02. Easy smooth ride down 25-30'

Responded quickly to radio call. There was one tow in front of us and was nearly 2 hours to get through. Took a lot of time to open and close the doors and waited about 15 minutes to flood the chamber after the doors closed. Friendly but not very efficient.
