Cabbage Key is a delightful hideaway catering to private boaters! Everyone from the marina staff to the gift shop attendant and restaurant servers are pleasant and highly competent. The vintage facilities are very well-maintained. It was refreshing to experience an islet that is largely undeveloped. We will be back!

Dockhands at the marina were responsive and we felt warmly welcomed by the staff. There was a long wait at the marina restaurant and the bar was very crowded, possibly because many other eateries in town were closed on Monday nights. We chose to just enjoy a walk around the charming town and then eat on the boat. Marina staff accommodated our request to stay an extra night when weather worsened. We were comfortable overnight in the marina even during high winds. Our only disappointment was we had to wait to use the shower facilities and they were not particularly well maintained. And we tapped the channel bottom our morning of departure since we had to check out before high tide. Overall it was a good experience and we would not hesitate to return!

Dockhand caught our line, but would not follow our instructions to cleat it, which would have made gliding into position quick and easy. He was argumentative and did not understand the concept of springlines. The website description stating "Visitors who dock overnight receive access to all Club Captiva amenities
for their length of stay" is false. Boaters must pay a resort fee of $40 per person per day to use any facilities at all. We were told there was nothing we could do off our boat without paying the fee. In addition a $1500 hold was put on my credit card for incidentals plus each of my 5 guests had holds of $200-400 put on their credit cards for our 2-night stay, which seemed greatly excessive. All transactions are cashless so all restaurants and shops scan your resort bracelet for payment. One important amenity boaters would appreciate - a nice bathhouse with showers - is not available at all. The resort is recovering well after hurricane devastation with multiple restaurants and pools but a bathhouse was apparently not a priority. There are new fixed docks and attractive family friendly facilities. But it is not an especially good value or experience for people visiting via yacht.
