The Blue Hole, Hoffman Cay

Description:
As the name implies, this anchorage is the closest point to the famous blue hole on Hoffman Cay. In prevailing conditions the protection and the holding in the anchorage is very good, and those who have made the effort to anchor on this part of Hoffman (as opposed to farther south) will be rewarded for their diligence if conditions pick up.
The anchorage is exposed from all directions except east, but the shallow water and drying bars manage to knock down the worst of the waves. The holding here is good enough for a properly set anchor of adequate size to ride out a cold front if your crew can handle some chop.

Our favorite anchorage in the Bahamas! Approach from the north at high tide to find 6 foot depths in the channel. Great holding in sand in 8 feet of water. Very protected from E and NE; we had 5 days of 30 knot winds and could still dinghy to the beach. Some swell in S winds, no protection from the W. Take the short walk to Hoffman's Blue hole, and take the dinghy to the tidal stream in the cove to the north. We saw lots of star fish, turtles, and rays here. 1-2 bars of BTC 3G.
