LOA: 38'
Draft: 4.0'Overall Rating:5Holding:5Wind Protection:4Wake Protection:5Scenic Beauty:3Ease of Shopping:5Shore Access:5Pet Friendly:5Cell Service:5The east side of Rock Sound has excellent holding in deep, sticky sand. For good wind protection, you must move around the Sound: near town for prevailing easterly/southeasterly winds, the southern shore near Starved Creek for southerlies, and the western shore for westerlies. Dingies can be landed at Frigate's Restaurant on the north end of town which is a 5-minute walk to the supermarket (one of the best provisioning stops south of Nassau). Propane can be filled at the hardware store next to the supermarket. There is also a liquor store and auto parts store in the same plaza.
On the south side of town, dinghies can land at the old wooden dock near the large white church. From here, it is a quick walk to Dingle's gas station and local restaurants. Dingle's dock is in ruins.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

Vessel Type: Sail
LOA: 38'
Draft: 4.0'Overall Rating:3Holding:1Wind Protection:4Scenic Beauty:4Ease of Shopping:5Shore Access:5Pet Friendly:5Cell Service:5There are numerous challenges with anchoring off of Governor's Harbour: the bottom is nearly entirely scoured rock with NO holding. Patches that look like sand are only a few inches of sand over rock. If your draft allows, better holding may be found in the deep sand very near the sea wall, but this shoals very quickly. There are numerous unmarked moorings on the bottom all over the area. There are several unwater cables to avoid. There is good wind protection from the northeast - southwest, and none from the west - northwest. If you have calm winds, and can find any holding at all, then shore access is easy on the beach or on the stairs along the road. Coffee shop, gas station, hardware, restaurants, and Friday Fish Fry all steps away.

South side: Excellent holding in sand, access to beach for dog walks.
East side: This is the preferred anchorage and can get quite busy with cruising boats. Excellent holding in sand. We weathered a frontal passage with 35 knots of S, SW, W, and NW wind in squally weather with no issues.

Draft: 3.9'Overall Rating:4Holding:5Wind Protection:4Current Flow:1Wake Protection:5Scenic Beauty:4Shore Access:4Pet Friendly:4Cell Service:5Enter from the west between Rabbit Rocks and Wedge Rocks and pass south of Cat Point. This is a well protected, secluded anchorage with 8-20 feet of water in sand with excellent holding. Protected by South Cat Cay to the west and shallow flats to the east. We experienced 35 knots of west wind and 20 knots of south, east, and north winds without issue. The current is strong here and you will swing on the current if the wind is under 15 knots.
The area is full of marine life; we saw sea turtles, rays, and sharks in the crystal clear water. Several beaches lie along the eastern shore for exploration and dog walks, but as of February 2017 a new development has begun construction on this part of the island. Shore access may change in the future.

Poor holding in shallow sand and weed along with occasional surge and moderate current makes an uncomfortable night, however. Easy navigation between rocks from west or northeast where you will find no less than 8 feet of water. Popular stop over for the Miami weekender crowd, so it is perhaps best enjoyed during the week. Stingrays will meet your dinghy, expecting to be fed. Fabulous shallow snorkeling in the rocks near shore and lots of wildlife. 3 bars of BTC 3G cell coverage.

Marina Review for Bimini Cove Resort
Reviewed by: Lucy Wilcox on Feb 22, 2017
Vessel Type: Sail
LOA: 38'
Draft: 3.9'Rating: 4
Bimini Sands resort is approached due eastbound after passing the main Bimini channel markers. The entrance is narrow and shoals to 5 feet at low tide. West winds can create surge in the channel making the entrance tricky for slow moving vessels. Call the marina for the latest details. The marina monitors channel 68 on a handheld VHF radio; range is limited to the immediate area.
Customs and immigration clearance is straightforward; the dockmaster will call a taxi for you for the 2 mile trip to the airport where customs and immigration is located. Round-trip taxi fare to the airport is $10.
Floating docks provide a comfortable stay in all weather conditions. The marina complex features two pools; one is an infinity pool on a beautiful ocean beach. There is a nature trail on the marina property. Petite Conch Restaurant, located on the marina grounds, is closed for renovations, due to open April of 2017. The ships store is also closed and due to re-open April 2017. Call dockmaster for latest status and information.
A small grocery store, liquor store, and snack bar can be found on the road to the ferry to North Bimini.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

We were on the hard here for 5 weeks, living aboard and doing our own work. The wide travel lift was able to haul our catamaran with no issues. The office received packages for us, allowed us to use the courtesy car, and had wi-fi. The water available is not potable so DIY live aboards will have to drive to the fire station for potable water. We did not use the service department, but they seemed very dedicated and competent. Overall a great DIY or service yard.

Dinghy dockage at Waterside Marina was $3 a day and gave access to Norfolk's restaurants and shopping. Dinghy dockage at Portsmouth North Harbor and High Street Landings is free and gives access to historic Portsmouth and shops and restaurants. We did experience occasional wakes from tug boats going by. Unfortunately, this anchorage has many crab pots which limit anchoring opportunities.

We stayed at the free dock, which was more than adequate. The dockmaster gave helpful directions over the radio and assisted with tie-up. Wifi worked at the docks as well as the office. We visited post Hurricane Matthew and the channel navigation is unchanged. Great town to walk around; restaurants, Piggly Wiggly and hardware store with propane fills within an easy walk.
