Ten Bay

Description:
Ten Bay is a shallow indent in the western shoreline of Eleuthera. It offers excellent protection from the east, but it is wide open from all other directions. The attraction to this anchorage is the sweeping expanse of beach that is the shoreline of the bay. The south end of the bay is largely private but the north end is public and it is possible to land a dinghy. In settled conditions with prevailing easterlies this is a pretty place to spend the night.

We loved this anchorage! Beautiful beach with shade trees. There was even a food vendor set up there grilling for you. Very few people on the beach. Anchoring was easy in all sand. Good snorkeling on the south end near the small rock at the tip. Residents were very friendly. We tried to bike to the Atlantic, but the road was unpaved and a bit too rough. We could have stayed for a few more days, but weather from the south, made the anchorage bouncy. Only other issue, was lots of flies and mosquitoes arrived around 6:00 pm.

Ten Bay is a beautiful sandy beach with a gentle sloping bottom that is shallow for the first 50 feet or so from shore. Anchor anywhere along the beach in 1.5-4 meters. Explorer Charts are pretty conservative here. We found sand on our first drop but a buddy boat hit scoured rock. There's so much room to anchor here. If you hit a hard spot, just try another.

You'll have great protection here from NNE through South winds.

This is a great place for a beach day, but it's also home of Ten Bay Cave, also known as the Bat Cave. It's worth a visit.
