This is one of the best anchorages that I have found on the East Coast. The only flaw is that most of the beach frontage was abused so no longer accessible. There is a sandbar on the starboard as you enter that is not restricted. The cove is superbly protected, and there is a CG station right in the harbor.

Fantastic spot for a good night's sleep. Easy access. The channel is well marked by red & green buoys all the way to the USCG station. Plenty of room for probably 20+ boats. When we arrived, we thought it was a bit crowded, but most boats departed at sunset leaving us almost to ourselves. We were able to get cell service and stream video, but it was on the edge.

Arrived at dusk on 10/6/17 headed to NYC. Very well marked USCG station channel, but be sure to respect all buoys on the way in... it's snug. Room for a few single-file boats inside to the west of the channel. Anchored outside the channel just to the WSW of green #7 in 6 feet on short scope. Woke early to glass-like water in medium-heavy fog. Crawled out slowly, set the foghorn and headed west toward Hell Gate with eyes on radar & AIS. Wouldn't hesitate to stop here overnight again.
