Came here with friends on their 25' powerboat and tied up to someone's existing moored float to have lunch. The island pier and dock has a small rowboat for use by visitors that pick up a mooring. There are a few moorings marked private and a few unmarked that are first come. There is room inside for a small boat or 2 to anchor but it is tight. It was a great spot for our lunch stop with complete protection. I would not wish to be here if the wind is straight into the cove but that is a very few degrees near due S. Any other direction and you have wonderful calm water.

This harbor is very tight. Bow and stern anchors required. There are one or two Land Trust moorings, but again, not much room to swing. There are a number of private commercial moorings and floats, leaving little room to anchor. Smaller boats can get far up the cove, while larger ones will need to stay out by the old CG station (now privately owned.) Lots of great hiking ashore, but no pets allowed. Good protection from anything but South winds. Can get rolly at the mouth.

I have been staying at Damariscove for years until I got a boat with a 6 foot draft. I bumped the bottom at low tide on a mooring outside the mouth of the harbor. My 47 feet with bowsprit will block the harbor entrance if I lay in side the harbor. Its a great protected place to spend the night. No matter what the weather, inside the harbor is always quiet. it can be busy in the summer with day trippers in motor boats, but most of them go home at sunset. No sunset or sunrise from the harbor as the walls rise all around you (giving the protection). The island has a great history from pre-pilgrims, with Indian massacres, fish drying stations, a community was there up until the 60s. There are caretakers on the island during the summer, but its very quiet and peaceful all the other seasons. Lots of well marked trails. One of my favorite islands (still looking for the ghost of the Mayor carrying his head under his arm after one of the Indian massacres)
