Harbor Master very friendly. Problem is several tour boats go right through the morning field to access the dock to pick up and disembark passengers. They were within 20 feet of my mooring all day and into the evening. The noise of their tour speech and their wake were disturbing. Not much sailboat life at Bar Harbor.

Anchorage Review for Long Island-Eastern Cove

No moorings, gravel and sandy bottom. Exposed to the NE, but the normal SW-SE winds of summer are not an issue. You can pull your dingy up on to the rocky beach and then have to walk 1-2 miles through very pretty woods to reach the small harbor on the other side of the island. Our only company were lobster boats first thing in the morning. Other wise very peaceful and calm.

I bumped the bottom at low tide on a mooring outside the mouth of the harbor. My 47 feet with bowsprit will block the harbor entrance if I lay in side the harbor. Its a great protected place to spend the night. No matter what the weather, inside the harbor is always quiet. it can be busy in the summer with day trippers in motor boats, but most of them go home at sunset. No sunset or sunrise from the harbor as the walls rise all around you (giving the protection). The island has a great history from pre-pilgrims, with Indian massacres, fish drying stations, a community was there up until the 60s. There are caretakers on the island during the summer, but its very quiet and peaceful all the other seasons. Lots of well marked trails. One of my favorite islands (still looking for the ghost of the Mayor carrying his head under his arm after one of the Indian massacres)

The island has volunteers during summer who live on the island and allow access to the lighthouse. There is only 3-4 moorings and anchoring is discouraged as the anchor will get fouled on all the cables and old gear from the past few hundred years. During the summer many motor boaters come out for a day and take up the moorings, but usually are gone by nightfall. The island rises to the west so its an early sunset from the cockpit, but the sunrises can be beautiful. The beach is a 3 minute row and pull the dingy up the sand.There are several trails to follow and in the fall the blackberries a plentiful. Its an easy trip from Casco bay and Muscongus bay
