Perhaps it was amazing years ago, but we found it crowded with moorings and generally too busy with lobster boat wakes and noise. The lobster boats have constructed a staging float in Billys Cove, so they go back and forth from the town dock and there all day long, usually loudly while pushing a good wake, weaving in between the anchored boats.
There is not much room to anchor, and where you can, it is deep--25-30 feet MLW—good holding in mud and good protection from all directions except north.
We had read that there are some moorings for rent, but we could not figure out which ones or who you'd contact.
The town landing dock (inner harbor just before the bridge) has ample room for dinghies but is still overcrowded. So, you'll wind up scrambling over other dinghies or getting on and off at the end of the pier. Walking on North Haven was pleasant. There is a very short hiking trail and a small preserve right at the town landing dock.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

We anchored in good holding mud with a spectacular sunset view of Maine's coast through the bay's mouth. Dock at northeast side allowed good access for walking our dog. No services, but a quiet spot for the night.

Draft: 5.0'Overall Rating:5Holding:5Wind Protection:3Current Flow:5Wake Protection:4Scenic Beauty:5Good holding in 10 - 20 feet of water and a mud bottom. Lots of mooring balls, some of which are available. The harbor is open to W'ly - NW'ly winds but we held in 35 knots. The dinghy dock is located at the head of the cove near the bridge. A small cove to starboard as you enter has deep water and we observed two large sailboats anchored there but use your sounder and remember the tides are 10 feet or so here. There's nothing within walking distance so grab your bike and enjoy the Maine scenery. We found farm stands and fish markets that sold fresh products.
