Review for Matanzas Pass

Draft: 4.0'Overall Rating:4We spent two weeks in the mooring field in April 2021. Reservations are now made via Dockwa. The Matanzas Inn and Marina will accept the reservation and you will receive several emails with confirmations, information on the mooring field and information on Ft Myers Beach. The mooring fees are very reasonable and include access to the new dinghy docks under the west side of the bridge, clean shower rooms, a nice laundry room, and WiFi. We found the WiFi to be inadequate and very slow, whether on land or the boat during most awake hours. The WiFi is faster overnight. Cell service is excellent for all major providers. The beach is just a couple block walk and many other beaches are a dinghy ride away. Lots of shells on all the beaches. Restaurants are plentiful and good. The balls in the field all appear to be very well maintained with no hard growth on them. There is a strong current that runs through the mooring field and the current will often run counter to the wind. When this happens the ball will be pulled back on the boat and bang on the hull. There’s a Publix on the beach trolley stop or it’s a long walk. Beautiful new library just opened in Feb 2021. There’s also a bus that will take you a few miles to the Walmart, Walgreens, Dollar Store, ALDI, etc. All in all this is a great stop for relaxing, shelling, eating, provisioning and just having fun.

Being exposed SE - SW, waves from that direction will make for a rolling stop. Holding seems good in 8 feet depth, and there is two-bar Verizon coverage.

Easy to get in, good depth and good anchor holding. Exposed to wind from south and not very pretty, but perfectly acceptable for short stops during passage. Never seen it crowded.
