Description:
The swift tidal current and the close quarters dictate that you use caution when anchoring. Anchor only on the southern side of the channel and consider using a Bahamian moor (two anchors in opposite directions, usually up and down the direction of the current), especially if other boats nearby are also using a Bahamian moor or are on moorings. This will help to limit your swinging distance and better plant yourself in the swift currents. Be mindful of the precipitous shoaling along the southern side of the anchorage.

This is a great spot. Close to the dinghy dock to see the cute town of Beaufort which has tons of great shops and restaurants. You've also got a great view of Carrot Island. We saw the wild horses on the beach both days we were there and also a ton of dolphins swimming through the anchorage (particularity around sunrise and sunset). Dogs are welcome to go on walks around Carrot Island as long as they are on a leash but beware, there are a ton of burrs and tiny cacti on the island which was a bit of a hazard for my pups paws. I don't think I would take her off the beach next time.

One of my favorites. You have the scenic beauty of Carrot Island to the south and the convenience of Beaufort to the north. It was a quick dingy ride to the town dinghy dock by the kayaks. We enjoyed the Historic Coffee Grounds coffee shop which was about a ten minute walk away and perfect. You can sit out front if you have a dog even if it means bringing indoor chairs outside. We didn't try the closer coffee shops though. We looked for the wild horses on Carrot Island the evening we arrived but with no luck. They were there in the morning though, a little left of the beach. They were still there at 2 in the afternoon.

Great anchorage near the town dinghy dock and not far from shopping. Keep your eye peeled for wild horses on the island to the south. Decently strong tidal currents through here.

As previously mentioned, there is now a 10-day limit on anchoring in Taylor Creek–the friendly city police will visit you and make sure you know it. The only vessels you will see here are transients, all derelicts and private moorings have been cleared out. The anchorage has plenty of room for ten or more vessels and good holding in sandy mud. The current is swift and vessels will swing, one modern anchor works fine but if it's crowded and others are using two anchors then that might be the better choice. There is a city dinghy dock adjacent to the kayak launch/sandy beach at the end of Pollock St.–newer, floating, and very nice with trash and water available. There is a designated spot at the sandy launch where you can leave paddle craft (but not dinghies). Now that there is space for visitors to anchor and shoreside access, this could become one of our all-time favorite spots.

According to the dockmaster I spoke with there is now a ten day limit at this anchorage. I only saw two sailboats anchored out while I was making a fuel stop.
