We had no trouble getting the hook to set. It grabbed on right away and was good all night. Nice dinghy dock at the marina/restaurant nearby and plenty to walk to in Portsmouth. I expected the wake to be bad as it is a busy harbour but the anchorage is far enough away from the channel that it was not an issue.

A good overnight stop if you are transiting the coast or Delaware River but, in our experience, not a super friendly stop for longer than that. We ended up staying a few days to wait out some weather and we're not able to get off the boat as there is no dinghy dock and no marina nearby was willing to let us tie up our dinghy (even though we offered to make a purchase or pay a docking fee), with the exception on South Jersey Marina who were super kind but unfortunately quite far away and difficult to make it to in the dinghy due to wind. The beaches nearby are all coast guard property and they will come out and detain you and demand ID if you approach. Not a good option if you have a dog onboard.

Loved this anchorage. Tons of room, close to dinghy dock and also a short dinghy ride to a few different beaches, some of which you were all alone on which was great for my dog to run around and play. A couple of great restaurants and shops right by the dinghy dock and a small convenience/grocery store a 2 minute walk away which had all of the basic essentials. We were here during a big blow and winds were reaching close to 30knots. We had great holding, didn't move an inch. There is some wake during the day when the smaller power boats go through but not bad and it stops after dark.

This is a BEAUTIFUL anchorage next to an awesome beach. Great place to walk with the pup. We had good holding and good protection from the N and NE winds. It was pretty rolly coming in the inlet but calmed right down as soon as we got into the anchorage. The only reason this is not getting a 5 star is because of the black flies. While the sun was up and the wind was down they were out of control but as soon as it started cooling off for the evening they went away completely and we could hang out outside, no problem. If you're going into the anchorage during the day, maybe just have your windows and hatches closed to avoid the nuisance.

Great holding. We had about 2 days of 25+ knots of wind while anchored here and didn't move an inch. Thick, heavy mud on the anchor when we brought it up. Nice town with great people. Public dinghy dock is easily accessible with a good sized grassy area for dogs right off the dock. Fitness centre in town offers day passes for $10 if you are looking for a shower (towels included).

This is a great spot. Close to the dinghy dock to see the cute town of Beaufort which has tons of great shops and restaurants. You've also got a great view of Carrot Island. We saw the wild horses on the beach both days we were there and also a ton of dolphins swimming through the anchorage (particularity around sunrise and sunset). Dogs are welcome to go on walks around Carrot Island as long as they are on a leash but beware, there are a ton of burrs and tiny cacti on the island which was a bit of a hazard for my pups paws. I don't think I would take her off the beach next time.

Nice and easy access from the ICW. Some noise from the planes and helicopters at the base nearby but it was kind of cool to see their maneuvers. There is a large boat launch in the anchorage with a dock that is suitable for dinghy's. It does not say "public dock" but it doesn't say "private" either so I tied up to that dock and took my dog ashore. Multiple fisherman passed by me and a couple of people launching boats and didn't say anything about me being there so I think it was ok. Lots of space for a dog to run and stretch their legs.
