April 25 2024 returned here again to anchor with our buddy boat encouraging us to try here again. It is tight and mud is soft but were able to set our Rocna . Tight turn when you are transiting in or out it is wise to blow horn prolonged blast as it is blind spot. 6' depths. Anchorage regulations: no more than 7 days every 60. Unfortunately buoy with this on it blocks some of the anchorage. Anchoring is limited time only. 4 18 2016 anchored for the night. Two boats were anchored with light winds. You are close to houses and piers but it is workable.

This week we stayed in the sweet cove for the second time. We love it. There was one other boat anchored this time. It is a very protected residential cove. The dinghy dock is "better than nothing" in the NW corner. To be clear, it is only good enough for a dinghy! A big Walmart with groceries is an easy walk one block away. There is a West Marine on the other side of the highway. Safest to Uber to. Then ask another WM customer for a ride back!!! (It worked for me!!!) Lots of other business in that area. So that's why I say 4 or 5 stars for ease of shopping.

There IS a marina in this cove with fuel, pump out and ice... and transient slips. But it lengthens the walk distance to Walmart significantly!

Getting into Spooner Creek was not an issue. The channel was well marked. Night was coming on so we had no other option. Even though there is a sign that says private residence it is a navigable waterway. It was made abundantly clear this morning as we departed just at sunrise that we were not welcome there as a resident was loading up at his dock to go out in a 50' sport fish...a go fast fishing boat...that as he blew past us at 20+ kts within a boats length from us creating havoc for my family. 99%are not allowed to anchor where his 1% is. This community in Morehead NC should be ashamed.

Nice anchor point but a little tight. With 50 feet out you are pretty close to the residential docks. No weather so cannot comment on holding but anchor was covered in soft mud. Did not leave the boat. Cell service excellent and least we had was 3 feet under keel on approach and inside the middle of the creek.

We anchored in the center of the bay with our CQR and 50 ft of chain. In 10 kts of wind we rode comfortably through the night.
